A lot of you know that whenever a big “break” comes up – winter or summer – I go visit my family and friends in Arizona.  The upside to being an underpaid tutor is summer off!  Although, I can’t wait to get back to work because it is incredibly rewarding to watch students get that ‘aha’ moment and start to shine.

Just before leaving to come visit Arizona I went with Kristen to see Maleficent. See it. I freaking loved this adaptation of Sleeping Beauty, and I’ve seen a lot of versions.  The movie is amazing.

Angelina Jolie has always been one of my favorite actresses and she really knows how to be the perfect villain.

So far vacation has only consisted of a little drinking, a bit of swimming, lots of being annoyed by my niece and nephew, and a little baking.

I totally forgot to take pictures, but so far this week we made homemade pizza, homemade bagels, and my sister made the best cookie bars ever.  Apparently the bagels rocked because all 12 were gone before 24 hours was up.  I’ll have to try different versions with this household as guinea pigs.

I keep trying to work on redoing my Alice site, but the kids bug me about each little thing I’m doing and “why is it taking so long?”  Hopefully, I’ll get a little free time this weekend so I can get things rolling.  I am hoping that my best friend’s little sister wants me to create her a site (she’s a fabulous artist) so that I have something to do this summer, because I miss coding all day!  Of course, come fall I’ll complain of coding too much when I go back to school for my Bachelors.

Crossing my fingers I can do something about our internet here at my sister’s tomorrow because it keeps eating shit whenever I want to stream a game or show.  Which makes me and my nephew super cranky.  Tried to watch Pacific Rim earlier so I could get my Charlie Hunnam fix and it died like 20 minutes in.  I’m losing it waiting for the next, and sadly last, season of Sons of Anarchy.  I am super excited to see who Marilyn Manson’s character is.

The upside and downside of being somewhat emotionally stable is boredom.  I don’t really care and I don’t really feel like doing things, but want to do things at the same time.  How do ‘normal’ people handle this all the time?  At least when I’m being all bipolar things are interesting.

Another project I’m going to work on this summer is recreating a paper I wrote years ago on the evolution of vampires in our culture.  It’s sad that they are no longer scary.  I much prefer the blood and guts versions.  It is interesting to see how we progressed to sparkling vampires and I hope I can find some of the same references I had.  I still can’t believe I lost both the written paper and the file on my flash drive.  Probably threw it away in some manic cleaning phase. Oh well.

Well, there are a few things in my life I’m semi-obsessed with.  One of these things is anything to do with mental illness and mental hospitals.  I’m talking movies, books, pictures of abandoned places, and anything else you can think of.  So of course one of my favorite movies is Girl, Interrupted.  And something that stuck with me was when they talk about the definition of ambivalence “simultaneous and contradictory attitudes or feelings (as attraction and repulsion) toward an object, person, or action” (  I feel this way about a lot of things in life so the word has stuck with me for years.

Another one of my semi-obsessions is Sons of Anarchy.  I absolutely love this show!! I can’t get enough of it.  It will be a tragedy when the show ends.  I’ve always been fascinated with that sort of life, even when I was a kid, so to see it in a t.v. show was awesome.

Cupcakes. Really need I say more?  The drag queens back in Arizona used to call me their cupcake bitch because I could always be counted on to make cupcakes for a charity show.  Something about making cupcakes just makes me happy.

Since we’re talking about my semi-obsessions I figure I should let you know about the rest.  I love skulls.  Be it metal ones that go on a wall, candle holders, jewelry, anything.  I also love Jack Skellington.  I have purses, coffee cups, shirts, and I always find something new I want on Amazon.  I also love movies.  All different kinds.  Everything from Hello, Dolly! to Resident Evil.  I am a big fan of horror movies (big surprise right?) but when I say that I mean real gore.  I’m not watching any Paranormal Activity crap.  I’m watching Dario Argento’s version of Phantom of the Opera where the phantom bites of a guys tongue and there’s fake blood ALL over.  Yes, I am a twisted freak – Thanks for noticing!

I also have a thing for Laurell K Hamilton.  She writes the best erotica – vampires, werewolves, wereleopards, faeries, etc.  I have almost all of her Anita Blake series and every time a new book comes out I read it in a day and just can’t wait for the next.  I also have a thing for Alice in Wonderland.  I don’t just mean the original cartoon.  I mean anything and everything Alice.  Alice: Madness Returns is amazing.  I wish I had played the original American McGee’s Alice, but alas I don’t have a copy.  Feel free to send me one! hehe.  The darkness applied to the fairy tale rocks.  I mean really the reason Alice even existed was because Lewis Carroll was a tad demented.
