A lot of you know that whenever a big “break” comes up – winter or summer – I go visit my family and friends in Arizona.  The upside to being an underpaid tutor is summer off!  Although, I can’t wait to get back to work because it is incredibly rewarding to watch students get that ‘aha’ moment and start to shine.

Just before leaving to come visit Arizona I went with Kristen to see Maleficent. See it. I freaking loved this adaptation of Sleeping Beauty, and I’ve seen a lot of versions.  The movie is amazing.

Angelina Jolie has always been one of my favorite actresses and she really knows how to be the perfect villain.

So far vacation has only consisted of a little drinking, a bit of swimming, lots of being annoyed by my niece and nephew, and a little baking.

I totally forgot to take pictures, but so far this week we made homemade pizza, homemade bagels, and my sister made the best cookie bars ever.  Apparently the bagels rocked because all 12 were gone before 24 hours was up.  I’ll have to try different versions with this household as guinea pigs.

I keep trying to work on redoing my Alice site, but the kids bug me about each little thing I’m doing and “why is it taking so long?”  Hopefully, I’ll get a little free time this weekend so I can get things rolling.  I am hoping that my best friend’s little sister wants me to create her a site (she’s a fabulous artist) so that I have something to do this summer, because I miss coding all day!  Of course, come fall I’ll complain of coding too much when I go back to school for my Bachelors.

Crossing my fingers I can do something about our internet here at my sister’s tomorrow because it keeps eating shit whenever I want to stream a game or show.  Which makes me and my nephew super cranky.  Tried to watch Pacific Rim earlier so I could get my Charlie Hunnam fix and it died like 20 minutes in.  I’m losing it waiting for the next, and sadly last, season of Sons of Anarchy.  I am super excited to see who Marilyn Manson’s character is.

The upside and downside of being somewhat emotionally stable is boredom.  I don’t really care and I don’t really feel like doing things, but want to do things at the same time.  How do ‘normal’ people handle this all the time?  At least when I’m being all bipolar things are interesting.

Another project I’m going to work on this summer is recreating a paper I wrote years ago on the evolution of vampires in our culture.  It’s sad that they are no longer scary.  I much prefer the blood and guts versions.  It is interesting to see how we progressed to sparkling vampires and I hope I can find some of the same references I had.  I still can’t believe I lost both the written paper and the file on my flash drive.  Probably threw it away in some manic cleaning phase. Oh well.

So I am going to try and remember to write here at least once a week.  I know you all missed my craziness and everyone can always use a good dose!

Last week I graduated with my Associate’s Degree in Multimedia/Web Design. Woohoo!  Which prompted me to set up my site to do some freelancing while continuing my education.  Since I’m a tutor at Chesapeake College I have the summer off and I’m going to spend it with my family in Arizona.

You can see some of my work  at ambivalentlizarddesigns.com.  I’m currently working on updating the Alice site I did my first semester for this degree.  A darker updated site.

For the final week of class we had our annual party and of course I made cupcakes.  This was my first time piping roses, but they turned out alright.  Painting the Roses Red!

And most recently I saved a kitten.  My friend Kristen had some living under her shed that we tried to catch.  So far only this one has been caught, which sucks because we also want the black one!  Here is my Alice.

Rather annoying little shit loves to scratch the hell out of me, but I love her anyway.

2 more days and WildStar releases!  Well, for those of us that pre-ordered.  Super excited to play this new game!  I played in beta and it rocked.  So that is all I plan to do next week with my nephew.  For now I suppose I should go work on my Alice site!

Wow, I can’t believe that it has been almost a year since I posted something.  Time really flies when you are busy!  I am now 1 class away from my second Associate’s Degree, ugh stupid math, and am currently doing an internship.

I finally have a site that I built live. While I am annoyed with her right now, I will share …  andymcfly.com.

For now I cannot share the site I am doing for my internship, but hopefully soon they will approve it and then I can.

During their Spring Break my sister brought her kids up, and they were sooo happy about the snow.  I’m glad someone was, because all of us here in MD were so over it by the time March hit.  Anyway, while they were here we made some awesome TMNT cupcakes!

They had to have more than just happy faces according to my nephew.. so some apparently had their pizza stolen and had to cry.

I found an interesting show on History… Cryptid The Swamp Beast.  It is a mix of fact and fiction and pretty damn interesting.

OH and don’t forget to go to Curse.com and check out the beta keys for Wildstar.  Seems like it is going to be an awesome game.  I played some of the beta this past weekend and I can say it was pretty good.

On that note.. I’m going to go play some video games since work is slow!

So excited for a few month’s off of school to recharge!  However, now I feel at a loss of what to do.  I am looking at an internship I would love to have for the summer, but I have to find out whether or not I’d have to drive to D.C. or if I could telecommute – of course expecting they would even accept me!  Sadly, it is the only one I found that I am fairly qualified for since I don’t know javascript yet.  I can’t seem to get into any tutorials online to start learning, but I should get my book the middle of next week so I can start learning!  Even though I have a super great job at U-Haul, since it’s not in the field I’m currently looking at it just doesn’t seem so exciting anymore.

I finally got my friend Andrea’s site done (she’s the artist that did the buttons, header, and footer for my Alice site).  Until she puts it online and gives me the final touches for her gallery page all I can share is her header –

The site is for commissions so when it’s fully up and running you should check it out, she really is very talented!

I feel proud of myself, all my hard work this semester paid off and I got a 4.0 GPA for the semester  and a 3.857 cumulative!  And to celebrate I was totally ready to spend like $30-$40 bucks to get another copy of Alice:Madness Returns (only PS3 this time) to be able to buy the original American McGee’s Alice, and guess what.. I go on Amazon and there is a downloadable PC complete collection!  Not only did I get the original game, but more dress and weapon skins for the second.. ALL for under $8!! Sometimes procrastination pays off! lol

So it’s my second to last day of the semester and I finally “completed” my Alice site revisions.  While it is a project I plan to work on forever, this is what it has turned out to be for my final project. (click the pic to see!)

With that finished it is time to work on uploading all my digital work to my school blog – Graphically Demented.  That will be finished later today if anyone is curious.  Thursday I present that blog and my final project for my HTML Site.  If you click the heart pic, it will take you to my index page for HTML and all sites I have put together this semester.  None of the content is mine (except the home page for Scotland Tours), but I did all the css and html code (and designed the index page and Scotland Tours pages).

I am looking forward to some time to relax, play Guild Wars, catch up on my favorite shows, and work on my personal web site.  About the only thing I have been able to discover this semester is “Hemlock Grove” a netflix series.  SO ADDICTIVE!  I was hooked 5 min into the first episode.  I can’t wait for the next season! Take a peek!

Why is it as soon as you think you’ve caught up, so much more needs to be done?!  Without previously saying we would be redoing our sites ( Absolutely Alice).. today we get told we have til the end of the semester to make it better… That’s barely a month!  Not to mention the other two sites I have due in a month.. oh and the one I’m doing for my friend Andrea (she did the header, footer, and bottles on my website.).  She is going to draw me an armadillo girdled lizard for my company logo – so excited!

So the new sites for school are

– A predone content site for HTML on Scotland Tours.  I only get to write the code and design the layout/pick colors.  And the home page is whatever I want.. The rest sadly is already given to us.

-A website for my professor.  She gave us a group project and since she is so impressed by my skills she asked my group to work on pages for her OWN site.  Awesome!

This means I will have 2 sites being used on the web shortly!  I am super excited about it because it will allow me to do a portfolio that isn’t just a bunch of files.. but also available anywhere and everywhere.

One thing I do have to work on is finding someone to intern with sometime in the spring of 2014.  I don’t know who to ask or who would even put up with me, but I’m hoping someone great who will teach me tons.  For now I’ll leave you with a favorite quote of mine…

One of the reasons I have been unable to post recently is I am working on a project for my MultiMedia and Web Design Class.  We have to create a website of 5-8 pages by Spring Break, about a month away.  So I chose one of my semi-obsessions.  Alice.  It will be everything from Lewis Carrol’s bio to the clothes and cakes it has inspired.  I will try to keep things updated here.. maybe even give a sneak peak!
